Rustic Purple Wedding at Bloom Lake Barn | Kayla + Jordan

Kayla and Jordan celebrated their rustic purple wedding at Bloom Lake Barn in Shafer, MN—a venue that perfectly matched their love for nature and laid-back style. I had the honor of photographing Kayla’s brother’s wedding, so it was especially sweet that she knew right away that she wanted me to capture her big day, too.

These two are fun, goofy, and adventurous, so having plenty of outdoor space was a must. Their engagement session at Willow River, by the waterfall, had already shown their love for natural settings. When it came time to tour wedding venues, they visited a few, but the moment they stepped into Bloom Lake Barn, they both knew it was the one.

“What really drew me in were the blue doors on the barn’s exterior. The outdoor space is wonderful, with a fire pit and an area for games. I also loved that there are separate spaces for the bride and groom to get ready. But the best part? The venue had everything we needed to spend the whole day in one place!” -Kayla

THE PROPOSAL

Jordan and Kayla got engaged in Orange Beach, Alabama during a spontaneous getaway. Kayla had no idea Jordan had bought a ring or was planning to propose. On their first full day, they headed to the beach in the morning, and Jordan popped the question in the sand, right by the water. Fortunately, a few kind strangers were there to capture the moment and later sent them the photos, giving them memories to cherish forever.

“As cheesy as it sounds, I am most excited about actually getting married. I am excited to stand up in front of all our friends and family to express our love and finally say I do!” – Kayla

SPECIAL DETAILS

For the reception, Jordan hand-built wooden lanterns for each table, and he and Kayla enjoyed staining them together—a personal touch that made the décor truly meaningful. They loved that Bloom Lake Barn offers a fantastic outdoor space, where guests could play giant Jenga and toss bean bags during the cocktail hour. For a unique guestbook, attendees signed custom cornhole boards, creating a fun keepsake for the couple.

The day was also deeply meaningful as the couple honored Jordan’s father, who had recently passed away unexpectedly. A reserved sign marked the chair next to Jordan’s mom, and a memory table at the reception celebrated his life. Jordan also incorporated his dad in deeply personal ways: he worked with a local jeweler to redesign his father’s ring as his own, and he had a photo of him and his dad sewn into the back of his tie, a subtle yet touching tribute he carried with him throughout the day.

LOVE NOTE FROM THE COUPLE

“I cannot even begin to express how amazing Jeannine is! She did both our engagement and wedding photos. She 100% NAILED it! She was so helpful leading up to the wedding, checking in to see how we are doing and if we needed anything. The day of the wedding she helped everything go so smoothly! She helped create a timeline based on the amount of people in our wedding and the specific photos that we wanted. She did such an amazing job capturing who we are as a couple. She was very timely with getting our photos back to us and they turned out AMAZING! I seriously cannot recommend her enough!!”
