Meet Sidney! She came to Minnesota with her mom from Texas to go to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN for testing Sidney’s Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). This chronic illness causes a fast heart rate after a person stands up and there’s not enough blood getting to the brain. This often causes dizziness, shortness of breath, vomiting multiple times a day, and more. A good friend of mine developed POTS after her second pregnancy so I was very familiar with what Sidney is suffering from. Also, as a new mom, I can empathize with what Sidney’s mom is going through. The helpless feeling of wanting to do everything you can to make your child feel better, but not being able to find the answers needed. As part of their trip, Sidney’s mom worked with some contacts in Minnesota to organize a photo shoot for Sidney, complete with hair, makeup, and wardrobe design.
