Erin and Jake live out-of-state so they relied on Erin’s family to help them find the perfect wedding venue. Since Erin and Jake both love old houses, the St. Paul College Club was an easy fit. It also happens to be down the street from where Erin lived during college, and she always found the neighborhood to be adorable. The venue has a beautiful outdoor ceremony site that the couple loved because it’s in the garden and surrounded by greenery. It wasn’t hard to see that this was the perfect place for this couple to have their navy and green wedding.
One very special part of their day was a traditional heirloom. Jake’s mom gave Erin a very special coin that has been passed down in her family. The coin completes the lesser known verse of the traditional saying, “Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, a sixpence in your shoe!” For some reason, the sixpence in your shoe often gets left off the rhyme and many brides have forgotten this part. But Jake’s mom’s family made the sixpence a tradition. So, honoring the tradition, Erin taped the coin in her shoe! The second part of this family tradition is to also have the bride paint her name and wedding date on the wooden box where the coin is kept. We love this unique tradition! Other special aspects of their day included a poem written by Erin’s friend and read during the ceremony. One of Jake’s friends performed a song at the ceremony. For their cocktail hour, their two signature drinks were named after their beloved pets who couldn’t join them in Minnesota. The Coraline and The Stella were huge hits! Also, both the groom and the bride shared special dances with their moms. Erin is very close to her mom so it was important to her to highlight her mom with a dance!
Let’s go back though to the summer of 2015. Erin had just moved from New York to Washington D.C. for work, and Jake had moved from New York earlier. They met on OKCupid and After a day of messaging each other, he asked her to meet in person. They agreed to grab lunch at The Well Dressed Burrito. Erin accidentally ate Jake’s burrito, but he was enjoying the date so much that he didn’t say anything. If that’s not a sign of true love, I don’t know what is! 😉 To say the least, they hit it off and continued to go one dates. Eventually, they both discussed marriage and decided together that they should tie the knot. As a romantic though, Jake decided to still propose. In March while the cherry blossoms were at their peak, Jake rented a paddleboat on the Tidal Basin near the Jefferson Memorial. While they were out on the water, Jake suggested taking a photo. As they both smiled at the camera, he held up the ring (hooked tightly to a foam keychain just in case!) and Erin saw it on the phone’s screen. Of course, she said yes!
