We are so excited to featureΒ Thirsty Whale Bakery on our blog! We have had the honor to team up with this amazing, award-winning Minneapolis bakery on a few real weddings and a styled shoot at Redeemed Farm. From amazing cakes to cupcakes and dessert bars to donut walls- they’ve got your sweets covered! We want to share their delicious talent with all of you so we chatted with pastry chef Megan, who co-owns Thirsty Whale Bakery with her husband, Kyle.
How long have you been creating custom wedding cakes?
Megan: We started our own shop in the summer of 2016, but personally, I’ve been in the industry making cakes for eight years. Kyle has been for eleven years! Actually, if you add up our whole mini team, we have thirty-five years combined experience!
What is your favorite dessert to make?
Megan: I do the decorating! But my best friend, Amber, is our head baker and she says her favorite thing to make is our mini hand pies. They come in all different flavors like strawberry rhubarb, apple, and blueberry! We will even put the couple’s last initial on the pie dough to make them extra adorable!
What’s the most unique cake you’ve created for a wedding?Β
Megan: It’s hard to pick a most unique cake because we do it ALL! We’ve put running water features in cakes, cakes that light up, and can even include moving pieces! We have one wedding coming up that is a replica of Kate Middleton’s wedding cake, and I’m super excited for that one!
What is your favorite wedding cake flavor combination?Β
Megan: You’ve got to try the Honeywine Moscato cake with triple berry mousse! It’s to die for! The cake literally has a sweet white dessert wine baked into it!
What’s your best wedding planning tip for engaged couples?
Megan: The best planning tip I can give is to really just relax and enjoy every moment! Honestly, your wedding day is so anticipated (and exciting to wait for) that when it comes, it is done in a blink! OH, and of course, always book an amazing photographer to capture every detail!
