Congratulations, Ashley and Tom! These two had their ceremony and reception at the Hennepin County Courthouse in Minneapolis, MN. I had so much fun being a part of their big day! We even rode on a Pedal Pub around Minneapolis with the bridal party during cocktail hour!
These two met while Ashley was pursuing her PhD in eastern Canada at The University of New Brunswick and Tom was the intramural coordinator at the university. Jump ahead to Ashley presenting some of her graduate research at an international sexuality research conference in Dubrovnik, Croatia. After looking up Croatia, she was really excited to visit and invited Tom to tag along. When they arrived, Ashley was looking forward to seeing the Plitvice Lakes, one of the oldest national parks in Southeast Europe. While the couple was standing underneath a waterfall in the middle of the park, Tom got down on one knee and proposed! Obviously, Ashley said yes!
When it came time to plan the wedding, these two had different approaches. Ashley wanted to stray from tradition but Tom is very traditional and as Ashley puts it, “He wanted nothing but the whole 9 yards for the day we get married.” So in attempt to compromise, they decided to have a small wedding at the Hennepin County Courthouse. The two of them loved the courthouse because it’s a unique venue. Since all of Tom’s family was traveling from out of state, they wanted to have a unique venue that was different from a traditional wedding venue. To make the wedding as personal as possible, they agreed to write their own vows, have Ashley’s favorite cover band play at the reception, serve a Canadian delicacy (poutine- french fries smothered in gravy topped with cheese curds) for their late night snack, and have a drinking game area (including beer pong, bean bag toss, and more).
