Le Méridien Chambers Minneapolis | Surdna Foundation

I had the privilege of photographing an event for an event for the Surdna Foundation at Le Méridien Chambers in Minneapolis, MN. The Surdna Foundation is a century-old private family foundation that seeks to foster sustainable communities in the United States. The event’s keynote speaker was Angela Glover Blackwell, founder and CEO of PolicyLink, a national research and action institute advancing economic and social equity. Blackwell’s mission with PolicyLink is to allow everyone to reach their full potential. Their focus is on how people are working successfully to use local, state, and federal policy to create conditions that benefit everyone, especially people in low-income communities and communities of color. Before Blackwell spoke, performers took the stage to perform a monologue about people making stereotypical assumptions about an individual due to their race. Blackwell then spoke about how ignoring these issues doesn’t help. There needs to be discussion. She pointed out that there was once a time when women couldn’t vote. People fought for this right and now women can vote. Blackwell concluded that change happens when we take a stand. Such an honor to listen to this incredible woman speak!
